About Dr. Jo L

I am a passionate women's holistic life, wellness, and spiritual coach, as well as a yoga, meditation, and mindfulness teacher. Previously I worked in mental health, under my doctoral degree in clinical psychologyspecializing in trauma. I transitioned into my current role as holistic healer and yoga, meditation and mindfulness teacher due to a desire to escape the limitations of bureaucracy and insurance, and my strong belief in the mind/body/spirit connection and its necessity in healing.

My business is called tula soul and my mission is to help women find balance, boldly use their voice, and proudly take up space. Tula means 'balance' in Sanskrit, 'wind' in Finnish, and 'poem' in the Philippines

Specialties include: eating disorders, body image, trauma, relationship issues, communication, abuse, addiction, depression, anxiety, stress management, transitions, low confidence, goal-setting, career issues, etc.

I teach a wide variety of yoga styles, including bhakti, hatha, vinyasa, tantra, nidra, restorative, yin, etc. My sessions are always trauma-informed, adapted to any level of experience (including no experience), and body-positive.

Meditation and mindfulness are important practices in my life, and I love teaching these practices to clients, since they are so transformative. Studies have demonstrated that both meditation and mindfulness improve both physical and mental health, decrease stress, improve concentration and focus, improve ability to problem-solve, and so much more.  There are so many ways to meditate, so if you're skeptical, or have tried meditating in the past and felt frustrated, I will find the right style of meditation for you. The truth is, everyone can meditate and enjoy the benefits

Given my passion for social justice, I volunteer for Humanize My Hoodie, which works for racial justice, abolition, and fashion activism. In addition, I volunteer for Eating Disorders Coalition and I mentor young women.

Writing is also a passion. I began writing poetry in fourth grade. It has been a means of expressing and processing feelings, and well as a creative outlet.

I am honored to have been voted Best Local Business Person of 2022 on Alignable.

FAQ

What kind of customers do you work the most?
Women from a variety of backgrounds with variety of presenting issues and concerns.
What questions should customers have before talking to professionals about their sessions, classes or services?
What specialties do you have? What is your intake process? Is your approach collaborative? Do you guarantee results? What happens if I'm not happy with services?
What should customers know about your pricing (example: offers, discounts, fees, etc)?
I have a standard fee plus a sliding fee and offer discounts for group rates.
What is your typical process working with a new client?
I do a free initial consult then if the client is interested we map out an initial plan and continue to reassess on a regular basis how things are going and adjust treatment planning accordingly.
How did you get started doing this kind of spiritual work or modality?
About 20 years ago I began intense spiritual work of my own and it was so powerful in my own healing that I naturally incorporated it into my therapy sessions. I eventually transitioned into Spiritual coaching with a mind/body/spirit approach so I had more freedom to do what I felt was most beneficial for women.
What kind of advice or recommendation can you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your spiritual field?
Make sure you have an initial free consult and immediately click with a potential coach. The connection you feel with a coach is critical in terms of being able to do the important work. If there is not an immediate connection and feeling of genuine authenticity and positive regard, please look elsewhere.
