Reiki is one of many energy healing modalities available to humanity at this time. The word Reiki is Japanese, meaning Universal Life Force. This form of energy healing was first introduced by Dr. Mikao Usui from Japan back in the late 19th century. Reiki eventually made its way to the United states, via Hawaii, in the 1940s.
Though around for a while, the past few decades have seen an increase in awareness and interest in this beautiful healing energy practice. Today, there are practitioners not only spread out across the US and Japan, but around the world.
The practice of Reiki is simple, yet a profound and beneficial healing experience. This modality uses symbols and hand positions to funnel this lovely life force energy into the auric field and the different body systems of the recipient.
Since the energy enters through the external layers of our energy bodies, via the hands or intention of the practitioner, actual hands on touch is not necessary, though many practitioners and clients appreciate that personal touch. However, Reiki energy is so powerful and efficient, that being physically present is not necessary. The energy can travel outside the confines of space and time.
The benefits of Reiki are many, yet the most reported effect from recipients would be an overall sense of well-being. The client leaves the treatment session relaxed and renewed. It is great for stress and anxiety. It has also been known to open up new mental, emotional, and spiritual pathways for those open to receiving that experience. It is through relaxation, stress reduction, and openness to these energies that actual physical, emotional, and spiritual healing can occur, which is very unique to each individual and situation.
